Motley Crue: The Dirt
by Motley Crue with Neil Strauss

Published - 2001 by Harper Collins Publishers

The Dirt, perhaps the best tell all autobiography on the planet. No punches are pulled and no detail (that can be remembered!) is held back in this written equivalent of a roller coaster. From the beginning we hear from the Crue themselves and all the major players along the way through the formative years, concerts, parties, women, car crashes, jail sentences, fights, overdoses, rehab clinics, break ups, reunions plus everything in between.

Neil Strauss does a good job of pulling it all together into a coherent and understandable read that gives you a good idea of the different perceptions, order of events and how they went down. The book also features some great photos and snippets of the Crue’s career including Nikki’s name change declaration, Tommy’s letters written in jail and an environmental violation notice in Nikki’s name dated March 12 1982.

What strikes me most about Motley is despite the drug and alcohol haze surrounding the band they still managed to drive forward, realise their ambitions and go further than anything they had imagined. The stories within this book truly will make you laugh, dry reach, pull at your heart strings and amaze you beyond belief. Buy it!
