Motley Crue Down Under: On Tour With The Carnival Of Sins
by Paul Miles
Published - 2006 by Chronological Crue
For those of you who aren’t in the know, Paul Miles is the man behind the popular Chronological Crue (www.cruetime.com) website. Despite being the biggest Crue fan in the world Paul had never actually seen the band perform live until the tour of Australia in December 2005. Naturally, this book is an account of Miles experiences travelling to each location and witnessing his favourite band doing it for real.
This is a relatively short read due mainly to the fact the tour only included 6 shows in 8 days. Although interesting I felt some details and conversations were slightly skimmed over and I assume that this is probably because Paul feels a certain responsibility to the people involved. It was cool though to read how friendships developed with the band and crew particularly Nikki and Mighty Mike.
I went into this book thinking Paul was an official member of the touring party but he was actually more of a VIP with access all areas. Because of that I felt a little uncomfortable at times when it seemed to me he had maybe out stayed his welcome. Don’t get me wrong though, the whole story is positive and Nikki in particular spent a fair amount of time entertaining Paul and his friends. Some of the stories such as the visit to Bon Scott’s grave and the conversations with Mick Mars were good to read but the lack of interaction with Vince, through no fault of Paul, was a bit disappointing.
