First off I’m not too sure GNR were “the band that time forgot”. Many fans around the world have made sure the band lived on even if Axl Rose hasn’t. But that aside Paul Stenning has tried to cover the group as best as possible without being authorised or able to talk to anyone directly in the band.

First printed in 2004 and revised in 2005 to cover the formation of Velvet Revolver, the book features some cool photos and a few quotes from the members themselves. Of course most of these are from Axl Rose but one or two from Slash and Duff make it also. At the back you can view a complete listing of every single, album, box set, DVD, book, video and bootleg ever released under the GNR name. There’s also a listing of every live show performed by the band with their various lineups.

Personally I felt at times the book took on more of a tribute to Axl Rose and would have liked more focus on the other members. The section on Velvet Revolver could have been more detailed too but I suppose at the time of writing there wasn’t a whole lot to tell. Overall it was alright but I think I’ll try to stick with authorised biographies in the future.
