Australia’s own The Casanovas are doing their part to bring rock n roll back to the fore in this country. The self titled debut album was a fairly good one and probably didn’t get enough recognition commercially but, these guys wouldn’t care and neither do I.

This is good ol’ classic, dirty Australian pub rock the way we are accustomed and perfect for our beer swilling, pub crawling culture. ‘Livin in the City’ is a good mid tempo track to kick off and following up, ‘Break Your Heart’ has that bluesy truck driving feel from years gone by. ‘No time for Love’ ‘Shake It’ and ‘Runnin so Late’ continue on in much the same way and are just good rock n roll songs. ’10 Outta 10’ in my opinion is the best song on the album and rams it home with that familiar AC/DC style riff. Tommy Boyce lets loose with his vocals a little more on this one and it pays off.

Most of these songs have that hint of AC/DC to them while they obviously maintain originality in a retro way if that’s possible. Both Damo Campbell and Tommy Boyce sing lead vocals but it’s pretty tough for me at least to distinguish the two. Either way it takes nothing away from the album. I’ve seen The Casanovas live and they translate the on stage energy well into the studio which helps put this album over the edge.
