The Casanovas came back after their self titled debut with a little more experience, some new band members and a more developed sound for ‘Born to Run’. While they maintain that classic rock style the sound is a little more layered and has an extra kick to it.

The title track explodes out of the blocks knocking you off your feet with the inclusion of pianos adding to that ol’ rock n roll sound The Casanovas are known for. ‘Shame on You’ is a good track but the trumpets in the chorus put me off a little. It does have something about it though that you feel can cross those commercial boundaries. Thankfully from that point on though the brass stops and the rock continues.

‘California’ is a decent mid tempo song and was one of the major singles off the album. Again this track has those commercial qualities to it but without becoming too pretentious. ‘All Night Long’ has that 70’s vibe in sections with the harmonic vocals and ‘Free Emotion’ Aerosmith-ish guitar chord. The song progresses into a ballsy blues style rocker and has to be one of the best tracks. ‘I Don’t Want You Back’ is fast tempo and feature’s some screaming vocals in the same vain as Nic Cester from Jet. ‘Overload’ is another favourite that has an 80’s feel to it and wraps things up really well as ’10 Outta 10’ did on the previous album.

Personally I like this album a whole lot more than the debut, it’s not as raw. That isn’t meant as a bad thing, I just feel the thicker more refined sound on show here compliments The Casanovas vibe and energy far better.
