Kamelot have been successfully fusing European power metal with traditional US heavy metal since 1995. Their sound has evolved slightly from album to album embracing operatic, orchestral and progressive additions while keeping all the power they started with in the beginning.
With ‘Ghost Opera’ the band took a less complicated approach to compositions and toned down a little of the aggression focussing more on melody. For many fans the album was a milestone in the career of Kamelot and as a result the label saw fit to reissue this album a year after it hit the shelves originally.
This time it comes with a bunch of extras including videos of ‘Memento Mori’ live in Belgrade and ‘Human Stain’. Disc 2 contains studio cuts for Seasons End’ ‘Pendulous Fall’ ‘Epilogue’ and a remix of ‘Rule The World’. All four a virtually ballads and whether they actually add anything to the overall album is up for debate. Also on disc 2 is a live set from Belgrade on their 2007 World Tour with a raw production and not too much processing to keep it organic.
This probably isn’t an essential to get your hands on if you’ve already bought the original or unless you’re an avid fan of the band. Even then you really have to weigh up just how badly you want the live set plus a few extras. If you’re into Kamelot but you’re yet to buy ‘Ghost Opera’ then definitely go for this version.
