Hanoi Rocks are back with new additions Connie Bloom (guitar) and Andy Christell (bass) alongside originals Michael Monroe and Andy McCoy with long time drummer Lacu for a really tight consistent but most of all rockin album titled ‘Street Poetry’.

As a whole this release has an eclectic mix of sounds from twangy guitars, 60s surfer riffs as on ‘Fashion’, brass sections including Monroe on sax and a range of percussion. There’s a good use of lyrics, an uplifting feel good vibe and some great choruses too. It’s dynamic with an ol’ time rock n roll flavour, elements of punk, pop rock and even a little funk finds its way onto ‘Power of Persuasion’. It all feels so natural layered into the modern Hanoi 07 sound.

The album rollicks along on tracks such as the awesome ‘Hypermobile’ ‘Street Poetry’ ‘Powetrip’ ‘Highwired’ ‘Tootin’ Star’ and ‘This One’s For Rock’N’Roll’. The title track was inspired by an anonymous street poet who used to write and recite his poetry based on the passers by outside Ladbroke Grove tube station in London. You also get some other groovin’ mid tempo strolls on ‘Fashion’ ‘Power of Persusaion’ ‘Walkin’ Away’ and ‘Teenage Revolution’.

‘Street Poetry’ is worth the price of admission, especially if you have the bonus edition and it’s also a very strong rock n roll record in every sense of the word. Hanoi Rocks are as relevant today as they were in the 80s and I challenge you to find a band today releasing such varied and vibrant material as they have done with ‘Street Poetry’.
