Long Island rockers Baptized By Fire came together in 2006 and have since developed a cult following in the US playing legendary venues CBGB’s and the Whisky A Go Go. They’ve supported some huge acts and vocalist Jesse Blaze Snider (yes Dee Snider’s son, but he doesn’t trade off that! Good on him) has maintained a place in the spotlight as a radio DJ, MTV VJ and featuring in MTV’s Rock The Cradle earlier this year amongst a host of other things.

Lucky for me the internet and MySpace make the world a little smaller so I was able to stumble drunkenly upon these guys. Obviously I liked what I heard because here I am with their ‘Juggernaut EP’. Immediately off the bat the title track chugs along with a driving drum beat in a fusion of modern punk and a whole lotta rock n roll. BXF know how to write a fun tune and it’s easy to see this track being a favourite with youngsters.

‘Fuck You!’ is a straight out middle finger to all those who doubted Jesse and BXF with lines like “Sticks and stones just piss us off!”. It’s snarling, fast and aggressive, a sure mosh pit starter. ‘Rockstar’ pulls things back a little speed-wise but it’s still full of razor sharp riffs and punch in the face attitude while ‘The Party Starts Now!’ is exactly that. A party song with a solo that just shreds!

BXF self produced this EP and I gotta say they did a great job. Stephen Pearcy of RATT was involved with the mastering and overall it’s very slick and crisp. But ultimately you’re judged on the strength of the songs and in all honesty I think each of the four tracks have the mettle to capture today’s new MTV generation. Their catchy and easily likeable but not piss weak. Instead, it’s a good combination of punk-metal with a little classic styling thrown in.
