Are Journey about to do a 'Ripper' Owens?

Rumours are rife that San Franciscan AOR gods Journey have offered the job of their new singer to Arnel Pineda - frontman of a Filipino covers outfit called The Zoo Band.

Apparently Neal Schon and co. were impressed by footage of Pineda performing Journey cover versions on YouTube.

Shades of Tim 'Ripper' Owens joining Judas Priest, you might think. But check out Pineda singing Faithfully here and Don't Stop Believin' here. This guy is good!

(Although hard-core Journey fans are allegedly ridiculing Pineda for the way he introduces the songs in a Filipino accent…)
